Refuge des Estagnous

The place

Staffed refuge at 2246 m at the foot of Mont Valier (2836 m) in Couserans (Ariège), within the Réserve domaniale du Mont Valier. Total capacity of 72 beds in season, plus a 20-bed free-access dormitory out of season with mattresses and blankets. Panoramic terrace overlooking two mountain lakes with a remarkable sunset. Quality local cuisine. Bivouac allowed from 7pm to 9am subject to having booked a meal; tent rental available (sleeping mat included). Dry toilets and drinking water available year-round.
