Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes · France0 mUnguardedVerified listing

The place

Unstaffed wood-and-shingle refuge at 1,783 m, on the Nifflon alpine pasture above Bellevaux in the Alps du Léman (Chablais, Haute-Savoie). The place name means "place without water": the refuge is equipped with a cistern, as springs are rare in the area. The site also holds the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges chapel and several snow caches, remnants of past pastoral life. A stage on the hike to the Pointe d'Ireuse and the Pas de l'Échelle. Contact the Bellevaux tourist office for access details.

The setting
