The place
An unstaffed refuge set at 2445 m in the parish of Encamp (Andorra), owned by the Government of Andorra, open all year round. Entry flagged as a duplicate during the deduplication audits of the v2 campaign — the canonical refuge is now listed under the Catalan toponym "Refugi de Montmalús". A remarkable position on the north shore of the Estany de Montmalús (mountain lake), reached from Grau Roig. Original fit-out: table, 2 benches, 8 bunks (no mattresses), fireplace. Capacity of 8 to 10 people. An exceptional mineral and lakeside setting in the eastern Andorran Pyrenees: subalpine meadows, glacial tarns, panorama over the emblematic peaks of the Franco-Andorran border. Emblematic wildlife: chamois, marmot (reintroduced in 1948), golden eagle, bearded vulture (reintroduced to the Pyrenees in 1987), capercaillie.
