The place

Unstaffed refuge at 1677 m in the Vallespir (Pyrénées-Orientales), near an old shepherd's hut from a summer pasture settlement. About 2 h uphill from the Leca car park, well-marked path. Capacity 6 spots. Small stove that heats well, 6 plastic mattresses on wooden platforms and a few blankets. Cupboard with some first-aid supplies, fire starters, a lighter, a few tins, bin bags, dishes, sponges, a saw. Splendid view over the Mediterranean Sea, from Canet to Roses, punctuated by the Albères massif. Spring 5 m away and a river nearby. Firewood to be found further down.
