Refuge de Broate

The place

Unstaffed emergency refuge at 2218 m by the Estany de la Pleta de Broate, in the Vall de Cardós (Alt Pirineu Natural Park, Pallars Sobirà, Catalonia). Inaugurated in September 1988. Maximum capacity 9 people. Equipment: emergency transmitter, blankets, mattresses. One of the most isolated and wild areas of the Pyrenees. Used by mountaineers heading for peaks including the Pic d'Estats. Sponsored by the Centre Excursionista de Tona. Vehicle access via Llavorsí then Tavascan, then a forestry road to the Pla de Boavi; on foot from the Pla de Boavi following the Broate river, roughly 2h45. Contact 93 812 42 03, cextona@cextona.cat.
