Refuge-Bivouac Forciolline (Boarelli)
The place
Sleeping places planned: 20 Places on mattresses: 16 The new Forciolline bivouac, very comfortable, with mattresses and blankets for 12/14 people, more if squeezed in a bit. !!! WARNING !!! often crowded, very busy, used for the ascent of Monviso. On the shore of Lake Forciolline. In a setting of stunning mineral beauty...! Structure inaugurated in August 2004. A technical sheet on the construction and fittings is available on this page along with a series of photos of it. From the Refuge Valante, descend into the Valante valley and, at Granges Soulières, look east for a wooden sign pointing to the Bivouac Bérardo (9 places). The path that climbs to [->4270] is well marked and signposted all the way to the bivouac, and climbs steadily and rather roughly. From Berardo to Forciolline, the terrain changes to become much more mineral, more or less stabilised scree, and the waymarking switches to a more discreet yellow marking, which seeks the best route through a fairly flat hanging valley after passing the first scree dome, going near small lakes more or less dried up. The other path that climbs directly up the Forciolline valley is more demanding, very rocky, fitted in several places with chains or other aids to ease passage, seeking the best line through the rocky chaos.
