Refuge bivouac Barenghi
The place
A CAI Cuneo bivouac inaugurated in 1958 at 2815 m in the Cottian Alps, in the Val Maira (Vallonasso di Stroppia, Piedmont, Italy). Dedicated to Beppe Barenghi, a Milanese climber who died in 1954 on the Monte Api. Sleeps 9, metal structure with a wooden interior lining, solar power, water from a nearby lake. No kitchen. Always open, unstaffed. Access from Chiappera: park at the Rifugio Campo Base then follow trail S18 via the Rifugio Stroppia, crossing the karst plateau (~4 h, exposed sections). Possible from the French side via Fouillouse (Col de Nubiera) or Serenne (Col de Gippiera).
Getting there
Départ depuis Chiappera (parking au Rifugio Campo Base ou pont des Fie, Val Maira). Sentier S18 en passant par le Rifugio Stroppia, traversée d'un plateau calcaire (passages exposés). Durée : environ 4h. Accès depuis la France via les cols de Nubiera (vallée de Fouillouse) ou Gippiera (vallée de Serenne).
The setting
Bivouac situé à 2815 m dans les Alpes Cottiennes (Piémont), au Vallonasso di Stroppia, en Val Maira, entouré d'un plateau calcaire. Le point d'eau provient du lac Vallonasso tout proche.
