The place
Hut set at 937 m in the Central Vosges (Haut-Rhin, near the Bas-Rhin border, Grand Est), managed by the Union Touristique de Strasbourg 1912 (UTS). A notable spot on the Alsatian Vosges heights, just off the trails linking Strasbourg to the Vosges ridges. The building is locked — access is reserved to bookings made with the UTS on 06 84 81 20 92. The entrance is nonetheless covered by an awning that can serve as an emergency shelter in rain or storms, and offers a good spot for an outdoor picnic. Typical Vosges forest setting: beech-fir stands on the Alsatian slope, Club Vosgien trails linking Strasbourg and Saverne to the Vosges ridges. Emblematic wildlife: roe deer, wild boar, chamois (reintroduced at higher elevation), red squirrel, black woodpecker, tawny owl. Located on the fringe of the Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord and the major Alsatian hiking routes.
