The place

Basic 4-bunk DOC hut in Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park (Aoraki/Mt Cook, Canterbury), at 963 m. Managed by the South Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association. Suggested contribution 5 NZD per person per night toward upkeep. Difficult 4WD access via the Godley River (course shifted to the true left bank above Sibbald Island — ford crossing uncertain). A base hut for backcountry activities in an alpine region.
