The place

Free Metsähallitus päivätupa (day hut) located in northern Lapland, municipality of Inari, in the Hammastunturi wilderness area, on the north shore of lake Rautujärvi between Hammasjärvi and Pasaslompola. On the Ivalo-Inari snowmobile route. Renovated in 2021: new woodshed, toilet and outdoor fireplace installed. Interior facilities: two tables with benches, fireplace for heating (no stove). No gas, no sauna, no running water, no indoor toilet. Free shelter open to all, no bookings possible: availability on a first-come, first-served basis. No waste collection service.
