The place
DAV alpine refuge (Frankfurt am Main branch) at 2731 m on the Gepatsch glacier, in the Ötztal Alps (Tyrol, Austria). One of the most traditional high-mountain huts in the area, classed Category I (basic facilities, self-sufficiency required). Access from the Gepatschhaus and the Kaunertal glacier road, following the glacier's broad névés: glacier equipment essential (rope, crampons, ice axe). Staffed by a team of volunteers rotating every fortnight during the season.
