Rakitsanoja kammi

The place

Kammi (traditional Sami turf-roofed hut, goahti type) **built in 2017 by 31 volunteers** with the help of Metsähallitus, in Itäkaira (Savukoski municipality, Lapland). Capacity for about 6 people on a sleeping platform. Wood-stove heating (wood supplied), gas cooking. Woodshed and toilet (Rakitsanoja liiteri) and fireplace nearby. The building reproduces the traditional turf roof with minimal overhangs — an architectural challenge inspired by the alasalvoska kammi (an older documented turf-roofed kammi).
