The place

Historic former stockmen's hut located in Victoria's Alpine National Park, managed by Parks Victoria, in the state's high country. A small timber structure on the Quart Pot Flat clearing, with an adjacent camping area. Seasonal access: the nearby alpine high-country roads are closed every year until 29 October. The site is subject to fire closures (aftermath of the Wonnangatta Complex Fire) and storm closures; visitors are advised to check conditions with Parks Victoria before departure. Dogs prohibited, European wasps and snakes present.

A bit of history

Cabane historique de mineurs construite en 1932 par la Wombat Hydraulic Sluicing Co (l'une de deux cabanes du projet ; l'autre a brûlé vers 1937). Occupants/locataires successifs documentés dans les années 1940-1950 (D.J. Cronin, Hodgson, R. Pendergast, Arthur Hughes, R.J. Cardwell, G. Dyer qui l'a restaurée en 1956). Structure en madriers de bois et tôle sur charpente en poteaux, cheminée en pierre doublée. Secteur Dartmouth, Alpine National Park, Victoria, Australie.
