The place
Qaryat Zahar Bou Hmida ("Zahar Bou Hmida Village") in the Cyrenaica region, Al Marj/Al Bayda area (north-eastern Libya, Jebel Akhdar), at 152 m altitude, on the foothills of the Jebel Akhdar. New Libya cluster, appeared in batch 343. COUNTRY ANOMALY: Libya is absent from the country database. Traditional Berber-Arab village (Zahar = "midday/summer", Bou Hmida = "father of Hmida", a Libyan tribal patronymic), in an area of the Jebel Akhdar "Green Mountain" (the only truly green area of the 2-million-km² Sahara, 1500 mm/year, an exceptional Mediterranean climate of olives, vines and carob trees, ancient Greek Cyrenaica) and near Cyrene (a Greek colony from Thera, founded by Battus in 631 BC, Aphrodite, the Cyrenaic school, Aristippus' hedonism, UNESCO 1982), heritage of the historic Berber Awaqir/Barasa tribes and the Sanusiyya, a Sufi order founded in 1837, anti-Italian, then the 1951 constitution of the Kingdom of Idris → 1969 Gaddafi coup, overthrown 2011 with NATO support + civil war 2014-2020.
