The place

Free open-wilderness hut (autiotupa) managed by Metsähallitus in the municipality of Suomussalmi (Kainuu, eastern Finland, formerly listed as Lapland). Three beds, a stove for heating; no chimney, no gas, no water, no sauna, no firewood provided, no toilets. Free accommodation, shared, first-come first-served. One of five shelters in the Hossa area, all located by the water, all equipped with stoves and all accompanied by an outdoor fire pit and wooden toilets nearby.
