Puketi Forest Hut

The place

DOC serviced hut with 18 bunks (two-tier bunk beds) in the Puketī and Omahuta forests, one of the largest continuous stands of native forest in Northland. Facilities: electricity, gas stove, small fridge, indoor fireplace, cold shower, non-flush toilets. Bring bedding and cooking utensils. Vehicle access: SH 10 about 600 m north of Waipapa Township, then Pungaere Road for ~15 km (partly gravel). **Hut locked — code sent after booking.** Fees: May-Sept NZ$25/adult, $12.50 child; Oct-April $28-34 depending on season and day. Backcountry Hut Pass valid May-Sept only.
