The place
Free autiotupa run by Metsähallitus (open section), located in the same building as the reservable Pöyrisjärvi varaustupa, on the south shore of Lake Pöyrisjärvi (Sámi Bievrrašjávri) in the Pöyrisjärvi wilderness area, Enontekiö municipality, northern Lapland. Twelve beds in the free section, alongside the reservable section (14 beds). Equipment: fireplace for heating and cooking, gas stove for cooking. No running water or installed toilets. Shared hut under the general autiotupa rules: open, unlocked, stay limited to one or two nights, no reservation. Access via an unmarked 18 km trail from the village of Näkkälä, busiest in August and September, impassable during spring thaw.
