The place

Serviced DOC hut with 32 bunks in the Holdsworth area of Tararua Forest Park (Wairarapa), at 1,232 m, about 15 km from State Highway 2 near Masterton. Located on the popular Mt Holdsworth-Jumbo circuit, 4 h walk from the Holdsworth Road end. Bunks are allocated on arrival, not in advance. Rates until June 2026: 25-30 NZ$ per adult depending on the day, discounted rate for youths, children under 5 free. Backcountry Hut Pass accepted. Bookable until 30 June 2027; same-day online bookings until 8 pm subject to availability. No walk-ins if full. Dogs not permitted. Zero tolerance for disruptive behaviour.
