The place

Standard 8-bunk DOC hut at 849 m in Ruahine Forest Park (Manawatu/Whanganui, NZ). Bunk platforms, wood stove, water tank. 7-hour access from Mania Road near Rangiwahia via the Whanahuia Range Track, then an exposed, unmarked ridge to the Kelly Knight Hut track. Strong winds on the ridges — caution required. No direct bush-to-hut track.
