The place
Waypoint of the Grande Escursione Appenninica (GEA), a great 425 km trekking route in 25 stages that follows the Tuscan Apennine ridge between the Bocca Trabaria pass (Umbria-Marche border) and the Passo dei Due Santi (Liguria border). The network of waypoints was designed around existing accommodation facilities (CAI rifugi, agriturismi, forest lodges, parish guesthouses) so that each stage is accessible, neither too long nor too difficult, with the option to descend into villages in the Tuscan foothills. The waypoint offers food and lodging to hikers; some display the official "Posto Tappa GEA" CAI Toscana label. A typical central Apennine setting: beech forests, summit meadows, and Italian cultural landscapes.
