The place

Swiss Alpine Club hut (Tödi section) at 2947 m, the highest SAC hut in eastern Switzerland, in the canton of Glarus south of Linthal, near the borders with Uri and Graubünden. On the watershed between the Clariden, Hüfi, and Sand glaciers. Built in 1929-30 to plans by Hans Leuzinger, who chose the site and designed an angled-plan building that seems to hug the rock. Capacity of 41 beds in rooms or 60 places in a communal dormitory. Staffed continuously from early July until Thanksgiving (the Swiss harvest festival, late September). Snow and rainwater — basic toilets. Nearby is the largest Windkolk (a wind-sculpted snow crater) in Europe. A favored base camp for high-altitude hiking, glacier tours, climbing, and ski touring in the Tödi area.
