Mountain hut "Jezerce"
The place
Mountain house perched at 1650 m on the Prenj massif (Bosnia and Herzegovina), south of the Taraš summit (1742 m). The site has a long history: the Austro-Hungarian Empire built the "Katharinen Hütte" here before World War I, which did not survive the conflict; in 1933, the Prijatelj prirode mountaineering society of Sarajevo built a new building here, expanded in the 1950s and used until the 1992-1995 war, when it was burned down. In 2005, an informal group of Prenj enthusiasts launched the reconstruction, sponsored by companies and individuals; hundreds of regional volunteers took part in the building work. The current kuća was officially opened on July 9, 2016. Capacity 25-30 people (dormitory floor at ground level, benches on the ground floor — bring your own sleeping bag and mat). Stove on the ground floor but no firewood provided. Free accommodation, donations accepted. Base for the ascents of Zelena glava (2103 m) and Otiš (2097 m) in 1 hour 30 minutes.
