The place

Basic 2-bunk DOC hut in Ruahine Forest Park (Manawatu/Whanganui), at 843 m. Stream water, open fireplace. Free. Access via an unmarked ridge route from Mid Pohangina Hut — good physical fitness and backcountry navigation experience required; the route to the Ngamoko tops is unmaintained and overgrown. Crossing private land between Piripiri Hut and the Pohangina River requires the landowner's permission. Take care when crossing rivers in flood.
