The place

Serviced DOC hut with 80 bunks in Coromandel Forest Park, Kauaeranga Valley (upper valley), 3 h walk from the car park. Facilities: cold shower, solar lighting, barbecue, gas cookers, solid-fuel stove; resident warden; limited water available — day walkers should carry 2-3 L. Online booking required, up to 8 pm the same day subject to availability. Rates (until 30 June 2026): weekday NZ$25/12.50 adult/child; weekend NZ$35/17.50. Backcountry Hut Pass valid only from 1 May to 30 September.
