The place
Staffed hut at 1752 m on the southwestern edge of the Steinernes Meer, about 1000 m above Saalfelden (Salzburg, Austria). Built between 1924 and 1926 by the local DAV section. A family-run house managed by Christiane Feller, serving traditional Pinzgau cuisine. The restaurant was voted best mountain hut in Salzburg by Falstaff in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Open views over the Saalfelden basin, the Hochkönig and the Steinernes Meer. An artificial climbing wall nearby for children. Facilities: electricity supplied from the valley, a 3200 m sewage network, a material cableway, refined Pinzgau cuisine, two dining rooms, showers. Open from April to October. Approach from Bachwinkel / Saalfelden: 2h30 / 4 km / 854 m of ascent. A stage on the connections to the Ingolstädter Haus and the Hundstod.
