The place
Staffed refuge ("Pendlinghaus," also known as "Kufsteiner Haus") set at 1565 m on the summit of the Pendling, in the municipality of Langkampfen, district of Kufstein (Tyrol, Austria). It has existed since 1909 — one of the oldest refuges in the Kufstein backcountry. An exceptional panoramic position, nicknamed "Aussichtsberg" (viewpoint mountain) — views as far as the Großglockner (3798 m, Austria's highest point), the Kaisergebirge (Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser), the Hohe Tauern and the Zillertal Alps. Traditional Tyrolean cuisine: homemade apple strudel, crispy roast pork, personal service and a picturesque atmosphere. Overnight stays possible in comfortable rooms. Classic access in about 1h30 from the Gasthaus Schneeberg (Thiersee) or 3h from the town of Kufstein. Tyrolean alpine setting: flowering pastures, fir stands, 360° panorama. Emblematic wildlife: chamois, marmot, golden eagle, peregrine falcon, red kite. A stage on the Kufsteinerland trails (Kufstein district) and loops around the Zahmer Kaiser.
