The place

Serviced hut with 8 bunks operated by DOC in Bream Head Scenic Reserve at Whangārei Heads (Northland), at 26 m elevation. Mattresses provided, rainwater to be treated or boiled, long-drop toilet nearby, no cooking facilities — bring a gas stove and utensils; the hut is unheated. Reachable in about 1 h from the car park via the Peach Cove Track, in 3 h from Ocean Beach/Urquharts Bay via the Te Whara Track, or by boat directly to Peach Cove. Online booking required year-round. Rates: Sun–Thu NZ$35 adult / NZ$18 youth; Fri–Sat NZ$40/NZ$20; children free. No fires, no dogs, no camping in the reserve.
