Panixerpasshütte
The place
High-altitude shelter at 2410 m at the top of the Panixerpass / Pass dil Veptga, in the municipality of Glarus Süd (canton of Glarus). Maintained by the canton of Glarus, directly on the marked trail over the pass. The Panixerpass is a historic, well-travelled crossing linking the Grisons Surselva (Panix/Pigniu) with the Glarner Chlital (Elm) — it is here that the troops of the Russian general Suvorov passed in 1799 during their retreat towards Italy. Cabin always open, kitchen and sleeping equipment for about 20 places. No booking possible — weekends and school holidays can fill capacity. Also serves as a stage stop for climbs on the Hausstock (3158 m) and neighbouring peaks.
