The place

Free cabin (autiotupa) managed by Metsähallitus in southern Finnish Lapland, near the Rovaniemi municipal boundary, north of the Aavasaksa-Muurola road (no. 930), along the Palokkaanoja stream. Located about 16 km south-east of the village of Meltosjärvi. Free, shared accommodation for non-motorised hikers, first-come first-served, stay limited to one or two nights per autiotupa rules. Minimal facilities (wood stove, wood supplied by Metsähallitus, dry toilet); bring your own sleeping and cooking gear, clean up after use per wilderness etiquette.
