Palmer Hut

The place

Standard DOC hut with 12 bunks at 563 m in Ka Whata Tu o Rakihouia Clarence (South Marlborough, NZ). Main access via Blind Saddle Road from Kaikoura (SH1 south for 5 km to the Waiau/Mt Lyford junction, then 25 km inland to the Kahutara Bridge car park). Locked gate: motorised access by arrangement with Colin Nimmo (Muzzle Station, +64 3 319 5791). Road closed in winter. No booking: Standard ticket (adults $10, youth $5, under-4s free) or Backcountry Hut Pass.
