Otutu Hut

The place

Standard 6-bunk DOC hut at 1,280 m in Kaweka Forest Park (Hawke's Bay, NZ), on the edge of beech forest at the foot of a large tussock area. Wood/coal stove, rainwater tank, food store, latrines, helipad 30 m away. Climate with heavy winter frosts and occasional snowfall. Access 2.5-3.5 h from Manson Hut or Rocks Ahead Hut; several car parks (4x4 recommended). Payment by DOC tickets in the honesty box.
