The place
Former basic 4-bunk DOC hut in the Te Urewera area (Bay of Plenty), historically managed under the stewardship of Te Uru Taumatua – Ngāi Tūhoe. **One of the 29 huts demolished/burned by TUT in 2022** (out of 44 planned decommissionings), a demolition ruled illegal by the High Court in 2023. The replacement plan and timeline are to be confirmed with the Te Urewera Visitor Centre (+64 6 837 3803, teureweravc@ngaituhoe.iwi.nz).
