The place
Standard DOC hut, 6 bunks, at 471 m in the Raukumara Conservation Park (East Cape / Gisborne, North Island, New Zealand — not Te Urewera or Whirinaki as a default classification might suggest). Set on a terrace 30 m above the river, opposite the confluence. Firewood for the wood burner, tank water. No marked DOC track — independent navigation required (map, compass, GPS). Used mostly by hunters and occasionally by trampers doing the east-west Raukumara traverse. Fee: 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) per night in the honesty box, or a Backcountry Hut Pass.
