The place
Former DOC hut in Te Urewera (east coast, NZ). Removed by Te Uru Taumatua / Ngāi Tūhoe as part of the phased hut-removal programme begun in 2022. Camping is still possible on site but without toilets or a water point. Self-sufficient bivouac recommended.
