The place

Contemporary self-service DNT cabin opened in March 2017 at 1,400 metres elevation on the Norefjellryggen plateau (Viken, Norway), 50 metres from the old Høgevarde cabin. Capacity of 52 beds spread across ground-floor rooms and mattress compartments upstairs. One room and three pens are reserved for dogs. Self-service mode; a separate café operates in the old cabin, serving hot snacks and drinks on variable seasonal hours. Wood stoves for heating, gas equipment for cooking, solar lighting with USB charging. Water from the lake below. Bring sheets or a sleeping bag liner. Summer access: 6-12 km of marked trails from Tempelseter or Bøseter; winter access by ski on permanent tracks from Norefjellstua or other trailheads. Neighbouring summit Høgevardetoppen (1,459 m) offers the widest views in southern Norway after Gaustatoppen (over 40,000 km² in clear weather).
