Nomadic family ger in Övörkhangai aimag, Kharkhorin/Erdene-Uul area (central Khangai steppe, Mongolia), at 1,817 m elevation, high steppe plateau. Continuous Mongolia cluster (batches 260-346, ~11 entries). Authentic ger of a nomadic herding family (3,000-year tradition from the Xiongnu to Genghis Khan in 1206; 30% of Mongolia's population still nomadic herders with 400,000 horses + 30 million yak-cattle + 16 million horses + cashmere goats producing 50% of world cashmere, ~15,000 t/year), in a zone spanning the Khangai steppe (2,000-2,500 m, stipa/festuca grasses and edelweiss) and Kharkhorin (former Mongol capital, Karakorum 1235-1263 under Ögödei Khan, UNESCO 2004 archaeological site, roughly half excavated, plus Erdene Zuu monastery from 1585, the third reintroduction of Tibetan Buddhism after the Yuan dynasty's fall in 1368).
