Naturfreundehaus Krottentaler Alm
The place
Naturfreundehaus at 1437 m in the Krottental alpine pasture area, in the municipality of Bayrischzell (Miesbach, Bavaria, Germany — not Austrian Styria, as a loose geographic assumption might sometimes suggest). One of three Almhütten in the Krottental. Managed by the Naturfreunde Neuaubing (Munich). Its origins trace back to a former alpine pasture building, parts of which date from the first half of the 18th century. Accessible from June to October with good mountain boots via a well-maintained trail. Ten beds, plus one emergency bed and two sofas in the lounge that can accommodate three extra people if needed. A good base for hikes in the Bavarian Prealps from Geitau, towards the Aiplspitz and other neighbouring peaks.
Getting there
From Geitau (Bayrischzell), well-maintained trail June-October.
The setting
Krottental, Bavarian Prealps (Bavaria, not Styria).
