Mt Rintoul Hut

The place

Standard DOC hut with 6 bunks in Mount Richmond Forest Park (southern Marlborough), at 1,260 m, below the summit of Mt Rintoul (1,731 m). Built in 1966 and renovated in 1997, an official stage of the Te Araroa Trail. Reached from Old Man Hut in about 5 h over 4.5 km via a demanding route — rocky, exposed, with a bit of scrambling above the treeline followed by a descent through scree. On a clear day, magnificent views over the Waimea Plains and Tasman Bay. No booking, payment by hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass in the honesty box (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026).
