Mt Fell Hut

The place

Standard-category DOC hut with six bunks located at 1298 m on the bushline, 1 km south of the summit of Mt Fell (1602 m), in Mount Richmond Forest Park (Marlborough). Views from the ridge over the Wairau Plains, Nelson/Tasman Bay, the Pelorus Valley and as far as Wellington. The neighboring alpine meadow is very popular for sunrises. Fee 10 NZD per adult per night, 5 NZD for ages 5-17, free below that, payable via standard tickets or an annual Backcountry Hut Pass. No booking. Access: Te Rou Road (Timms Creek) 7 h for 12.8 km, Richmond Saddle Hut 4 h for 5.2 km, Middy Hut via the Pelorus Track with off-track navigation. Road conditions in the Marlborough Sounds are sometimes affected by weather events: check before you go.
