Mt Brown Hut

The place

Hut at 1,121 m in Lake Kaniere Scenic Reserve (West Coast, NZ), with a magnificent view of Lake Kaniere, Hokitika and the ocean from the deck. Owned and maintained by the Backcountry Trust. Track not maintained by DOC, sporadic maintenance by Permolat. Access signposted south of Geologist Creek along Dorothy Falls Road. Rates: adults $25, children $12.50, free for young children. No Backcountry Hut Pass. Online booking available until 8 pm on the day, subject to availability. No places held for walk-in visitors without a booking. Rebuilt and relocated by volunteers to encourage beginner trampers and families.
