The place

Basic three-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Nelson Lakes National Park, Nelson/Tasman region (South Island, New Zealand), at 1,550 metres elevation. Free access. Connections: 4 h to D'Urville Hut and 5 h to Sabine Hut. Biosecurity alert: invasive lindavia algae present in some lakes in the region — dry all gear completely for 48 h before any contact with alpine waters; cleaning stations are available at designated huts to disinfect equipment that has been in contact with Lake Rotoiti or Lake Rotoroa.
