Mosedale Cottage
The place
Bothy maintained by the Mountain Bothies Association (MBA), tucked at the foot of Branstree in the Lake District (Cumbria, United Kingdom), at 450 metres altitude. One of only ten MBA bothies in England (most are found in the Scottish Highlands). A substantial multi-part building: the main house is open free of charge to all travellers (comfortable leather armchairs, table and chairs, two small storage rooms adjoining the living area), while outbuildings remain locked and reserved for shepherds and estate workers. Approach from the east via Wet Sleddale or Swindale, or from the west at the head of Long Sleddale; a remote site requiring 2.5 to 3 hours' walk. Nearest village: Shap. Indicative capacity of around ten people according to reports.
