The place

Vuokratupa (paid bookable cabin) run by Metsähallitus at the heart of the Morgamoja gold-mining district, a tributary of the Lemmenjoki (Lemmenjoki National Park, municipality of Inari, Lapland). **Historic building constructed in 1949 under the name Morgamoja's Kultala / Pellisen kämppä** as a support base for gold prospectors — for several years it housed a post office, a shop and a restaurant. **Since 1975, the site has served as both an autiotupa (free cabin) and a vuokratupa (paid cabin)**; the building has two rooms, one free and one bookable. Gold was discovered in August 1945 by the Ranttila brothers, triggering the Lemmenjoki gold rush — a memorial stands nearby.
