Moonlight Tops Hut

The place

Great Walk DOC hut with 20 bunks on the Paparoa Track, in Paparoa National Park (West Coast). Panoramic view over the sources of the Punakaiki, the Pike Stream escarpment and the whole park. Access: from Ces Clark Hut 3 hours on foot or 1.5-2.5 hours by bike (9.7 km); from Pororari Hut 5-7 hours on foot or 4-5 hours by bike (19.1 km). Open year-round, ranger present in summer. Rates (per person per night): 1 Oct-30 Apr NZ$78 resident, NZ$117 international (youth 39/59); 1 May-30 Sept NZ$61 resident, same for international (youth 30). Facilities: heating, cold running water, gas cooker, long-drop toilets with paper, bunks with mattresses (bring sleeping bag and utensils), no shower. NZTopo50 map BT20 (E1468445, N5322175).
