The place
Capacity: 34 The hut is staffed by volunteers only from June to September. In the wardens' absence, the hut remains open: only 20 bunks, cooking possible, water or snow available year-round. Summer route 2: From Unners Schallbett on the Simplon road PE (experienced hiker) 3h30 From Unners Schallbett, take the path leading to Obers Schallbett (P. 1996). Continue on the path to P. 2205 and take the path leading to the Mäderlicke. Climb up the Bodmertälli valley and pass the Mäderlicke (2887m). Descend slightly towards the lake and follow its northern shore to reach the hut. Ski route 161: From Unners Schallbett on the Simplon road BS (competent ski mountaineer) 3h00 From Unners Schallbett (1933m), immediately after Refuge n°V, climb onto the roof of the gallery and follow it past the second bend, to P.1967. Leave the gallery and climb left (E) into the lightly wooded slope, roughly following the stream. Near P.2516, you join the ascending route from the Simplon Pass. Avoid crossing the moraine to enter the Chaltwassertälli; instead climb to the right of the lateral moraine, along the stream, up to P.2786. From this point, turn N and pass above lake 2756 to reach the hut. Ski route 162: From the Simplon Hospice BS (competent ski mountaineer) 3h00 From the Simplon Pass (2005 m), or the Hospice (1997m), climb to the upper station of the small ski lift, follow the line of the bisse (irrigation channel) east via P.2162 then traverse beneath the steep slopes of the Hübschhorn, roughly along the summer path, to P.2516 (avalanche risk in this sector). Avoid crossing the moraine to enter the Chaltwassertälli; instead climb to the right of the lateral moraine, along the stream, up to P.2786.
