The place
Standard 9-bunk DOC hut at 665 m in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park (east coast of New Zealand). Maintenance shared between DOC and the NZ Deer Stalkers Association. On the Moerangi Track (mountain biking and tramping) crossing the transition between podocarp forest and beech forest. Access: 4 h 30 from River Road Carpark or 3 h from Rogers Hut (Te Wairoa). Payment by DOC tickets in the honesty box or Backcountry Hut Pass.
