The place

Unstaffed DNT Bodø og Omegn cabin at roughly 700 m in the heart of Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park, halfway between Krukkistua and Bjellåvasstua. Sixteen beds across two buildings: Gammelhytta (old building, eight beds plus a loft with mattresses), Sikringshytta (safety cabin, eight beds). Fourteen of the sixteen beds can be pre-booked, arrival before 9 pm. Facilities: gas stove, wood-burning stove, solar panels powering lighting and phone charging. Access with standard DNT key. Boat and fishing gear available. Dogs allowed only in Gammelhytta. Open year-round. Summer access via marked trails from Lønsdal or from Krukkistua/Saltfjellstua to the south. The old log building is documented from 1876 and was rebuilt after a fire in 1901: notable historical value as a former telegraph station.
