The place

Memurubu Turisthytte is a large privately-run guarded lodge in the Jotunheimen, set at 1008 m altitude on the north shore of Lake Gjende at the head of the Memurudalen valley (municipality of Lom, Innlandet, Norway). It is one of the largest guarded lodges in the Jotunheimen, with 150 beds and an exceptional view over the Gjendealpene and Gjende. Originally a mountain pasture farmed for over 100 years; a large two-story lodge was built in 1884. The old fjellstue was completely destroyed by fire in 1998 but rebuilt for mountain tourists. In summer, the Gjende boat serves the lodge several times a day; marked trails to Gjendesheim (east) and Gjendebu (west). Popular start or end point of the famous Besseggen hike.
