Medelserhütte
The place
The Medelserhütte is a staffed hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, Uto section (Zurich), located at 2524 m elevation on the Fuorcla da Lavaz, a pass between the Val Plattas and the Val Lavaz in the Surselva (Grisons, Switzerland). 55 beds. A first wooden hut was built in 1910; replaced by a stone structure in 1934. Renovated in 2006 with small rooms and showers. Dynamic architecture blending modern timber construction with the original stone section. A small but fine range of routes, a demanding climbing garden, a stop on the 4-day "Greina Alta" trek from Disentis to Vals. Popular in winter with ski tourers and snowshoers. Accessible summits: Piz Medel (3210 m), Piz Valdraus (3096 m).
