The place

DOC standard hut with 6 bunks in Ruahine Forest Park (Manawatu/Whanganui), at 1,422 m. Water tank, wood stove. Access on foot only via the Kawhatau River from the Rangitane Road bridge (vehicle access via private property is no longer available). Route impassable in flood. No booking, payment by hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026). Rates revised as of 1 July 2026.
